Fab isn't Happy
Lukasz Fabianski interview on Canal+ after being dropped by David Moyes

“I took the news awfully. Being honest, first of all, it was a massive shock. Second of all, the information made me angry. I wasn’t mentally ready for something like this.”

“The way the situation was handled feels weird to me. As you can probably feel my pain, all I will say is that through my work with the club, the coaching staff and the manager I deserved the situation to unfold in a much different way than how it happened and on Thursday.”

“I know it’s just my subjective opinion, but I feel like I should’ve been treated better in that specific situation.”

Is this an old interview about the Europa?

I'd imagine he was told on Thursday.

I see Moyse's man management and treatment of players has'nt improved in over 1,000 games

As everyone knows I'm no Moyes lover but I don't see a problem with this, it was two days before the game.

Areola has waited patiently and not aired his feelings

Must have come as a complete shock that a younger more expensive goalkeeper wasn’t just brought in to wear the gloves for midweek tinpot games.

Actually you can't see that, you can just see a disgruntled player.

''As you can probably feel my pain''

Erh, no. I feel the pain and I'll reserve my sympathy for normal folk struggling to put food on the table for their kids, not whining multi millionaire footballers. Fuck off and suck it up.

Surprised at Fab if true! TBH there is very little between them in my opinion and surely Fab knows that as well and then what right does he think he has to think he is always going to be number 1? And not like we went down to Bournemouth and he then got told, 2 days is plenty.

All i can see is Areola has done enough to deserve his chance, if he fucks up then Fab will be back between the sticks quick enough, also ones at the end of their career the other still has plenty to go, not sure why Fab would have a problem.

Suck it up son.

Re: Fab isn't Happy
doesn't seem to be much self awareness with him, very woe is me, which is odd considering areola's patiently waited for two years to get his chance. sell this cunt before the deadline if he's that unhappy

Re: Fab isn't Happy
Fab has been 1st choice for a long time and has consistently been marginally better than Areola imo.

It’s probably a sound decision or risk losing Areola as Fab is 38 now I think? However when a player has been 1st choice for years it does come hard to lose your place for your age rather than for poor performances.

He’ll get over it and probably win his place back later in year because Areola is not necessarily any better.

Fab was making noises before the Prague final that he'd "love to be involved".

Well now it looks like he'll get a crack at European football.

Re: Fab isn't Happy
He is a much better keeper than Areola so I can understand his frustration, if true.

We do need a new keeper.

Re: Fab isn't Happy
I don't think he's a better keeper.. But it's irrelevant he should keep his frustration to himself.

The positive, in this situation, is that it shows Fabianski is still hungry to play. I like him and he’s been generally, very good good for us.

However, I don’t think it is good long term, that Areola is only playing cup games.

For me, It’s not enough for him to stay fully focused and on form - he needs to be playing week in, week out, in order to build consistency and an understanding with the defence.

If after playing week in, week out, Areola still shows inconsistent form, then we need to look elsewhere for a No 1.

I don’t believe you can fully judge a goalkeeper who is only playing cup games.

My biggest concern actually, with Areola, would be that he should have been kicking up stink for not playing week in, week out. That would show ambition - something you’d expect in a Premier League footballer coming into his prime years.

Still, that’s neither here, nor there, , seeing as he should now have more of a run in the team.

As others have said, Fabianski needs to accept this, as he is 38 and coming towards to the end of his career.

He is saying the way the situation was handled was weird.

I’m sure he has self awareness and can see his time as number 1 will be coming to a close. I’d assume that he was thinking Moyes would have the professional integrity to have a conversation with him and not treat him as he treats a kid like Ben Johnson for example.

Bloke is nearly 40, smart fella and super pro. He probably hasn’t experienced such a lack of empathy from a manager before and it pissed him off.

Let’s hope it’s a one off and Moyes doesn’t start a habit of upsetting players so much that they they want to leave…. In droves

If you look at Fabianski’s career, it’s a prime example as to why Areola should now be given a run in the team.

Up until about 29/30 Fabianski was just a occasional starter for Arsenal and not really going anywhere ‘Flapianski’ wasn’t it?

Although he did play the cup games and win a an FA Cup - sound familiar to someone else.

Then, he moved to Swansea, played week in, week out and became better and more consistent.

Re: Fab isn't Happy
Could be the type that needs an arm around him. Still, presuming he starts in Europe and cup matches he could still be looking at 20 odd games this season if we do well. He'll get over it I'm sure.

Both are decent keepers, there's not a lot between them. Both have done well for us. Sometimes you get dropped, get over it Fabs you drama queen. Pretty poor (if this is true and in context) that he's bleating about being dropped in the league for the first time in fucking forever. Our club is a fucking zoo.

...or perhaps he's angling for a move?

Stevethehammer 12:08 Tue Aug 15
Re: Fab isn't Happy
There's either one of 2 ways in which he can respond to being dropped. He can knuckle down, see it as challenge and retake the number 1 spot, or he can sulk and spit his dummy out like he has done. At 38 you would expect a little bit more perspective from him and 100bags a week to warm the bench for now isn't to be sneezed at.
Areola has to take this chance to finally be a number 1, he has been on the fringes for years, the only time he has made a name for himself was at Fulham 3 years ago.
